Kovelamudi Surya Prakash Rao (Telugu: కోవెలమూడి సూర్యప్రకాశరావు) (1914–1996) was a noted director, producer, actor and Cinematographer of Indian films. He was recipient of Raghupathi Venkaiah Award. He is father of director K. Raghavendra Rao.

Brief life

Suryaprakash Rao was born at Kolavennu in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh in 1914. After primary education, he did some small jobs for some time. He has worked in the Praja Natya Mandali.

He has entered the film industry in 1941 as actor under the director Gudavalli Ramabrahmam in the film Apavadu. He played the key role in Patni as Kovalan and in Babruvahana produced by R. S. Prakash in 1942.

He started film production in 1948 with Drohi, wherein he also played the main character role under the directorship of L. V. Prasad. He named his production house as Prakash Productions and produced and directed some films like Modati Ratri and Deeksha; later on developed it as Prakash Studios.
